If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified bulb, enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year will be saved, more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equiva- lent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars. Imagine if all homes on Earth would do the same...

 Simple Ozone Protection Tips

Air pollution, including that of ozone, is mainly the result of human activities. The small things you do every day can help reduce air pollution and hence improve the protection of the environment as well as human health. Here are some tips on what you can do, on a day-to-day basis, to help

prevent air pollution:

1. Take public transport or carpool! A good solution for longer journeys may be public transport or carpooling, since more people can be transported in a single vehicle. If you choose to take the car rather than the train or bus, for instance, you will generate several times more ozone pollution and up to 30 times more CO2 emissions.

2. Walk or use the bike! 45 % of the ozone precursors and 38 % of the particulate matter emitted in Europe comes from transport. On average, one out of three journeys we do by car is only to go as far as 2 km. Replacing a car ride by walking or using the bicycle not only helps reduce traffic but also emissions.

Water is essential to life on earth. We need water to grow food, keep clean, provide power, control fire, and last but not least, we need it to stay alive!
If water is constantly being cleaned and recycled through the earth’s water cycle, why do we need to conserve it? The answer is that people use up our planet’s fresh water faster than it can naturally be replenished. For more information on using water wisely click here.

One of the most well known forms of carbon offsetting is to plant trees. The idea being that as trees grow they absorb carbon dioxide, one of the most prevalent greenhouse gases. The carbon is then locked, captured or sequestered in that tree until it is burnt, or falls over and become forest humus, at which time the carbon is released again into the atmosphere. While all this is true, we don’t yet know just how effective trees are at trapping carbon.  Importance of preserving forest cover.

Animals have as much rights to the Environment as People do, and they are an integral part of our Ecosystem. Cruelty to animals is cruelty to the environment.

1. Invest in a ceramic mug that can be washed and reused for coffee and other beverages instead of using plastic, styrofoam, or paper cups at work.

2. Do you know that most bottled drinking water are sourced from TAP or Local Reservoir? You are better off drinking from TAP, save money and lessen plastic wastes.

3. Hate eating left over from a meal at a restaurant the next day? Doggie bag food and give it to the next homeless person you see on your way home.

Ten Simple Ways to Recycle at Home

Call your local recycling center to determine what types of materials they accept, if they do curbside pick-up and if they provide recycling bins.
Purchase or make the number of recycling bins to match the number of different types of materials you will recycle (i.e, one bin for cans, one bin for plastics, one bin for glass).
Place the recycling bins in an accessible area called the 'family recycling center.'
Place an extra bin in the kitchen with a sign on it saying 'Place All Recyclable Materials Here.'
Assign some person in the family the daily recycling chore.
Once a day (or more if needed), rinse and crush the items in the 'kitchen' recycling bin.
Take the rinsed and crushed items to the family recycling center.
Sort the items and place them in the appropriate bins.
If you have curbside pick-up, remember to put the bins out on the assigned day.
If you must take your recyclables to the recycling center, choose a regular day.
